Dress Code Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there a dress code at Collingwood School of Dance Inc?
A: Yes. CSD students are required to wear a navy blue camisole leotard for all levels between Mini and Senior. All Prima students are required to wear a light blue tank leotard from Prima 1 to 4. A light blue skirt is optional for any Prima Ballet/Creative Movement classes.
All Ballet, Pointe and Exam students must wear pink convertible tights and all Jazz, Tap, Modern, Acro and Musical Theatre students must wear beige convertible tights.
The tights and shoes warn for each class must all match in brand, style and colour for performances.
Tight black shorts are optional for Jazz, Tap, Modern and Triple Threat Classes.
Q: Why is there a dress code at CSD?
1. The simple leotard and tights combination makes it possible for the Instructor to see the dancer's body outline clearly in order to make proper corrections on posture, alignment, etc.
2. Young dancers are often distracted by their own dancewear. Large skirts and/or tutus become the dancer’s focus instead of the instructor.
3. Learning to dance and work together as a team can be more easily achieved by removing the distraction of different dancewear.
4. Instructors are able to choreograph and clean dances more effectively when the dancers are dressed the same.
5. A neat & tidy appearance sets an attitude of attentiveness & respect for students, teacher & the art of dance.
Q: Can we ever wear fluffy leotards, skirts and tutus?
A: Of course! We realize that part of the fun of dance for a young child is getting to dress up in all the fun dancewear. On Halloween dress up week we encourage all students to dress up in their favorite dancewear, a past dance performance costume, or their halloween costume.
Q: Where can we purchase our dancewear?
A: All dancewear and shoes must be purchased from CSD to ensure they match classmates and are properly fitted.
Q: How do I know what to buy for my dancer?
A: Visit our dress code page for a complete list of required dancewear for each dance style.
Q: What is the difference between a uniform and a costume?
A: Every class at CSD has a uniform which is to be warn to every class. The “costume fee” which is due upon registration, is for the costume that students will wear in June for our Year-End Performance.
Q: I have more questions…who can I talk to?
A: Email info@collingwoodschoolofdance.ca.
